Things You Need To Know When Hunting

Shooting has become increasingly popular in the recent years, with more and more people from different backgrounds taking up the sport. If you’re new to the sport then it can be rather daunting when being faced with all the possible types of shooting you can be a part of, but we advise people to do their research and pick something which suits them. Many people take up shooting for numerous reasons, whether it is to get fit and healthy, or just to meet new people and join a community.

If it’s hunting you’re interested in but are struggling to get going, then why don’t you follow some of these tips:

  • It is important to not make a lot of noise, when hunting a snapped twig can even scare the animals away, so we advise people to stop and stand still if they think there is an animal nearby. Not only this but patience is key to shooting an animal, this is because the slightest thing can scare them, so walk slow, stand still and be silent for as long as you think necessary.
  • If you’re a serious hunter, then maybe you might be sleeping in a tent or cabin for the night whilst hunting, if so then we advise you to keep warm and sleep in comfort. For example, we advise you to place a pad underneath your sleeping bag and wear as much thermal clothes as possible, if you have a bad night sleep and you’re cold, this can often put you off hunting the next day.
  • It is important to watch the animals for a while before you start following up, this gives you an idea what the animal is doing and how fast it’s walking.
  • Often blood trails can be hard to follow and be rather frustrating, this is why we advise people to not give up! The animal will be around somewhere and you should do anything possible to find it, which even means crawling on the floor to see if you can see any spots of blood around, or perhaps even higher up like on the sides of trees and bushes.
  • If you aren’t planning on tracking an animal and just standing by a tree for example, and waiting for an animal to appear, then it could be useful for you to move any forest debris around from under your feet. This way if you do move when you see an animal you won’t be standing on anything which could scare them away.
  • Remember to be safe! If you’re a beginner we advise people to know about all the laws and rules when it comes to using a gun, to ensure your safety and the safety of surrounding people.
  • Pack smart. There is nothing worse than it being a rainy day and all of your gear getting wet. So check the weather and always make sure that your gear is in pockets which zip up to avoid them getting wet. Not only this but always take a flashlight of equipment to build a fire.

These are just a few tips for people who are starting up hunting, remember to keep warm and keep quiet and make sure you have got the right gun for you. The Daystate Huntsman Regal.177 has become increasingly popular in the hunting community. So get equipped and get hunting today!
