One of the worst things you can do when it comes to email marketing is send out emails that your customers (and potential customers) do not want to read. You should spend time putting together an email that is relevant and is going to peak their interest, because it won’t take much for them to delete your email if they feel it isn’t a worthwhile read.
If you make sure that the emails you send are interesting and packed full of relevant information then you have more chance of them being read and liked by the people you have sent them too. Email marketing can be a really valuable marketing tool and way of communicating with your customers, but you have to go about it in the right way
Relevant Emails
Make sure that you don’t go down the route of simply spamming readers with emails about your products. You should also make sure that the only people you get in touch with are people who have opted in to receive emails from you – going down the route of sending unsolicited emails simply will not work. People won’t read them and you even run the risk of being blocked by ISPs for sending spam emails.
You need to have a system in place where you can collect email addresses of people who might be interested to hear from you, an opt-in page on your website can work really well for this. You should only even email someone who has given you their permission to do so.
The Right Type of Emails
Of course there are different types of marketing emails that you can send, so you might need to play around and see what works best for you and the people you are emailing. Generally speaking you should have a catchy subject line, something that makes people want to read the rest of the email and all the important information towards the top of the email body.
Make sure you keep track of what emails you have so you can see which types work for your customer base and which types you might need to tweak in order to make them a little more effective. Don’t be put off if things don’t work out straight away, as with any sort of marketing campaign you need to tweak it in order to make it perfect for your needs and the needs of your customers.
Generating Sales
Email marketing can be really effective when it comes to selling products but only if you go about it in the right way. You should ensure that your email has plenty of calls to action in it as well as pictures/text telling them why they should buy from you and how they can benefit. Sending emails about new products and special offers is a really great way of doing this.
However your customers are not silly and if you simply send them sales pitch after sales pitch they are going to switch off. Make sure you fill your emails with relevant news and information too – after all, they want to deal with a company that knows what they are talking about, so you need to reassure them that you are up to the job! It can also be a good idea to mention current events or holidays – sending season’s greetings or acknowledging the good weather for example.
This reminds them that you are a real person and this allows them to establish a much better relationship with you which means you have a much better chance of generating sales.
Think About Your Readers
It can be tempting to make sure that your email is all singing, all dancing packed full of pictures and gimmicks but this generally won’t go down with readers. Anything that can make the email slow to load or hard to read on smart phones and tablets is generally a bad idea. It is good to make your emails look good but not at the cost of being able to read it easily. So make sure you keep all of that in mind when you are putting together and designing the marketing email to be sent.
