Reddit user “Anders202” recently put together, what’s in my opinion, the perfect outdoor speakers box. Not only is it beautiful to look at, highly durable and cranks out great sound, it’s, more importantly, solar powered. The only problem with these speakers is the initial investment. Anders202 raked up a bill of more than 1000$ while completing his project and even if he managed to do it for a few hundred bucks cheaper, it’s just too expensive for the majority of us.
Fortunately solar powered devices, including outdoor speakers, are becoming more common by the day and ultimately cheaper and more affordable. They also don’t have as many extras as Anders202’s speaker box, but most of us don’t really need all that .Below I’ve listed four of my favourite outdoor speakers which be bought by anyone, is affordable, powered by solar and easy to operate.
Honeywell Wireless
Honeywell’s ranges of solar powered devices, which include everything from switches to alarms, are well-known to cost and environmentally conscious consumers. They recently moved into the speakers market with the Honeywell Wireless Solar Outdoor Speaker, which currently sites as one of the top rated solar outdoor speakers on Amazon.
Eton All Terrain Solar Speakers
Eton combined its solar and battery pack manufacturing expertise with its love for beautiful, highly functional audio devices. They now have the largest range of solar powered outdoor speakers and constantly push the bounds on what is possible with this type of technology.
The Eton Rukus All-Terrain Portable Solar Wireless Sound System is currently their top seller. It has a flat rugged design is waterproof and can handle almost all outdoor conditions. It includes a USB port to charge your mobile devices, can play for up to 8 hours on a single charge and wirelessly connect to any Bluetooth enabled device.
Eton Rukus Portable Bluetooth Solar Speakers
The Eton Rukus Portable Bluetooth Solar Powered Wireless Speaker System is second in terms of popularity, but first when it comes to style. Not as rugged as the “Rukus All Terrain”, it fits in more comfortably in an outside dinner setting. It comes in white and black, weighs 3.5 pounds and can run on AC or solar power. You can play music from Bluetooth enabled smartphones, tablets or PCs and manage everything on the E Ink Display.
Eton Rukus XL
As popular as its smaller brothers, the Eton Rukus XL is the boss of solar powered outdoor speakers, perfect for those who like to play their music loud, while keeping the electricity bill to minimum. Weighing it at 7 pounds the XL comes with an Extra Large Solar Panel, more than 8 hours of playing time, 2 tweeters, 2 woofers and 22 watts of sound output. In comparison with the Rukus Bluetooth it’s highly affordable and will turn any barbecue into a blowout.
With the recent advances in solar power, rising energy costs and general acceptance of not-so-traditional looking devices in your living space, there’s no better time to invest in something like an indoor or outdoor solar powered speaker system. I’ve only mentioned some of them in this article, but you can rest assured that they are some of the best.
