Gibraltar is a picturesque island off the south coast of Spain but interestingly is a British foreign territory. This means if you’re from the UK, your Gibraltar wedding plans (probably) won’t be hindered by whatever Brexit brings. Sounds perfect for a wedding, right?
The Weather In Gibraltar
You can expect sunshine and temperatures 20c+ from April through to October, with heights of about 28c generally in August. So, hot, but rarely too hot. It will suit everyone who comes to celebrate your big day.
This also means that when it comes to picking a date for a sunny wedding abroad Gibraltar gives you a wide range of dates of the calendar year. Ideal!
A Small Island with Lots to Offer
Gibraltar is a relatively small island, however, it’s not short of venues or accommodation options and is crammed with things to do (outside of celebrating your wedding, of course).
From the great siege and ‘world war 2’ tunnels (for history buffs) to the ape’s den and one can’t visit Gibraltar without a trip to the iconic ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ – the perfect photo opportunity. More than just a chance for an iconic photo, you can find out about the fascinating history of this lump of monolithic limestone. The history of the island can be told through its stories. Let’s just say, this rock has seen it all over the years.
Picturesque Wedding Receptions
If you’d like a waterfront reception you are spoiled for choice, with various packages available for dining by the sea for you and your wedding party.
Sweet Gibraltar Weddings offer several waterfront packages for you to choose from. Not only will you get views (and amazing photography) but the menus are amazing. Your guests will be treated to the best the med has to offer and with something for everybody to choose from.
Where To Stay
If you like luxury, without having to pay-through-the-nose, then you’re in luck. There are cheap hotels, but there are also quality hotels at mid-range prices such as the O’Callaghan Eliott or the Rock of Gibraltar hotel. See a full list of the best hotels with current prices on TripAdvisor. My personal tip when booking hotels is, however, to book directly from the hotel website, as you’ll more often than not get the best deal and often there are more perks to be had, e.g. different add-ons on offer or a totally exclusive selection of rooms unavailable from 3rd party booking websites.
The standard of hotels does vary on the island of Gibraltar but there are some gems to be found.
Top Tips For Planning A Wedding In Gibraltar
- Do your research and plan rigorously before you get there. There are plenty of useful guides online and people you can reach out to for help in planning a wedding in Gibraltar.
- Read reviews. Whether it’s for your hotel, ceremony or reception, check them all – so you can choose wisely but also, so you can advise your guests. After all, you want everyone to enjoy the trip and festivities.
- Check flight and accommodation prices before you set the date. You need to think of your guests and the costs involved for all concerned. Consider off-peak dates (April/May or September/October).
- Book direct from your hotelier, as you’re more likely to get the best value and service this way.
