The ever increasing price of ivory makes elephants to be targeted by poachers. Within Tsavo alone, six elephants were killed in the course of May of 2014.

When these elephants are slaughtered, their babies are taken to an elephant orphanage within Kenya, where they are given special care. Centers offering such kind of care are equipped with private sleeping quarter and dormitories. This is the place where Dr. Daphne Sheldrick comes into the picture.

In the year 2009, Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick was featured in a 60 minutes footage. He is 80 years old yet he is not even ready to stop from doing what he has always done in his life – raising and rehabilitating animals such as elephants and many other. Once they reach a certain age, they are taken to areas that are protected and then integrated with various orphan groups.

This video features Daphne’s way of interacting with the animals. He has revealed that these animals are forgiving, compassionate and caring- and is highly against the practices of poaching. Authorities know him as a person that likes to rear wild animals and happens to be the first person to perfect the milk formula.
